AbbVie is delighted to partner with Dr. Niamh Shaw for this year’s Sligo Science Festival.

AbbVie is a global research-based biopharmaceutical company with a significant presence in Sligo. The company is committed to leveraging its science and business expertise to positively influence education in the communities where it is based and has been a supporter of Sligo Science Festival for the past five years.  One key company objective is to help transform, promote and support STEM-related projects and activities and AbbVie actively engages with schools, colleges and industry partners to achieve this ambition.

AbbVie is delighted to partner with Dr. Niamh Shaw for this year’s Sligo Science Festival.

Dr. Niamh Shaw is passionate about igniting people’s curiosity. She presents the human story of science, creating theatre shows, public events and contributions to media with this focus. She has set herself a life’s mission to get to space, as both an artist and explorer. In that capacity, she has participated in simulated Mars missions, a zero gravity flight, witnessed launches and landings of astronauts to the International Space Station. She has appeared on RTÉ’s ‘The Late Late Show’ & ‘The Tommy Tiernan Show’ to speak about the story so far and her need to engage with our planet.

Niamh will tell her space and science stories of her adventures so far with videos of her simulated Mars mission in the Utah desert, her work with the European Space Agency, a zero gravity flight in Russia, and her trips to Baikonur cosmodrome.
